Hunterdon Harmonizers Craft Original Holiday Show

The Hunterdon Harmonizers will present their original Holiday Show, Pirates of Perchance, on December 1, 2011 at 2:30 and 7:30 PM, at Hunterdon Central High School. We all love to celebrate pirates in sports  (Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Pittsburgh Pirates) and entertainment (Pirates of the Caribbean, Pirates of Penzance).  This year, the Harmonizers celebrate both pirates and Christmas in song.
You are invited to join Captain Greenbeard and his jolly crew (Walker dePlank, Chips Ahoy, Igo Dattaway and others) on their flagship Pollywog as they cruise from the Emerald Isle to Timbuktu.  Along the way, you will learn why Captain Greenbeard became the scourge of the six (?) seas, all about a scurvy plot to kidnap Santa, and how his bumbling crew finds the Christmas Treasure.
Then there’s the battle scene between pirates, elves and stowaway kids that you won’t easily forget.  The pirates’ riotous version of the Twelve Days of Christmas tops off all these shenanigans. Come out and see how this all makes sense (or nonsense).
The second act features the Hunterdon Harmonizers performing a selection of favorite Christmas songs.  A unique repertoire of holiday songs will be presented. by our guests, the Jersey Harmony Express and by Untamed, one of the area’s best barbershop quartets.Join the Harmonizers for some piratical antics and holiday songs at Hunterdon Central High School on Dec. 1. Tickets are $15 for adults ($20 at the door), $10 for students, and free for children under 6.  They may be purchased from any member of the Harmonizers or by calling (908) 806-NOTE or you can visit their website, www.njharmonizers.org.

Top Three in the Mid-Atlantic Northern Division

Harmonizers Win Barbershop Chorus Competition

On a perfect Spring weekend in June, the Mid-Atlantic Northern Division of the Barbershop Harmony Society held their annual convention on the campus of the Beard School in Morristown.  On June 1, thirty quartets from NY, NJ and PA vied for top honors.  The Hunterdon Harmonizers were well represented by five quartets.  Untamed and Chordhouse Steps placed in the top ten.  They will move on to the next level of competition at the Mid-Atlantic Fall Convention in Ocean City, MD.

The next day was the chorus competition.  Fifteen choruses representing four different levels were prepped and ready to go.  Hunterdon Harmonizers had practiced hard to improve their skills with a weekend retreat, special coaching sessions, and a great send-off gig for friends and family.  At contest, they had 35 men on stage and won cheers from the audience for Didn’t Want to Fall in Love and You’re Nobody til Somebody Loves You.

The judges agreed, awarding them a score that won the AAA level.  The Harmonizers and five other choruses from the Northern Division will move on to compete in Ocean City, MD.

On Saturday evening, the Show of Champions provided the top quartets and choruses a great venue to showcase their talents.  It did not disappoint.  Harmonizers kicked off the show with Nobody and Applause

Your next opportunity to see the Harmonizers will be their annual concert at Deer Path Park on June 28, 2012 at 7 PM.  Bring your family, chairs and blankets to enjoy an evening of great entertainment for free!

Your invitation

Last full rehearsal before contest

As we get closer and closer to contest we put the finishing touches on our two songs. This year we are the last of the four divisions of the district to compete, so we will know where we stand at the end of our contest.

Our last rehearsal was in the back room of a local ice-cream parlor because the church was having an event of its own. Seemed like a suitable place -- they usually hold children's birthday parties back there.

This coming Tuesday night we will be back in the church for our last get together before contest. The public is invited to come hear our contest songs, to  hear our quartets that are competing, and party a little as part of our send off.

Getting Ready for Contest

The time has come to get ready for contest. Part of that process is bringing in coaches and working the little details of the two songs. We also have the process of recording ourselves so we can heard how we sound within the chorus. Jack Pinto, our former director, spent the day with us a week ago. A good day of intense preparation.

Five reason to Sing with the Harmonizers

This is a great time of year to come out and visit the Harmonizers. See if you like what we do. Sing with us or just sit and watch and listen. It is great fun, good fellowship, learn something every time, become part of a great sound. We are learning new music. For example: The Beach Boys have joined our list of songs. Call 908-806-NOTE for more information.

Singing Valentines

One of the fun things for the guys, and for the community that gets the experience of a Singing Valentine, is the experience of four men arriving at your home, office, dinner out, place of employment, or just about anywhere, dressed in red and white, with rose in hand, and a song on their lips just for your favorite someone -- man or women. Here is a sample of what you might see and hear.

We Start a New Year !

Last night was our first chapter get together for 2012. A low turnout with guys still recovering from the holidays and a few of them away. We had a full evening. We took photos of some groups of four guys dressed in our "Reds" to use in promoting Singing Valentines. We worked on the two primary Valentine songs (we have new improved learning recordings). And we also introduced new music. A fun filled evening.

We invite men of all ages to visit us next Tuesday evening at the church at the corner of Maple and Main Street in Flemington to see what all the fun is about. We start to gather at 7:30 with a formal start at 8:00 with a warm up of our voices.
